Good morning, riders.
Let’s hope your bus ride ends at Gate 10 of the Iowa State Fair sometime in the next 10 days, by far the busiest time of the year for DART.
It’s an all-hands-on-deck affair to make sure the operation runs smoothly, but it’s worth it. Thousands of people who don’t usually ride DART get a taste of public transit in Des Moines, and hopefully some of them become regular customers afterward.
So tell your non-riding friends to try DART to get to the fairgrounds. It’s only $2 round trip, which means four adults can ride to the fair more cheaply than if they carpooled and paid to park on the fairgrounds. It’s even cheaper for families with children, because children 6 to 10 ride for $1 and those 5 and younger ride for free.
And it’s simple. Catch any of DART’s regular routes and ride downtown, then transfer to Route 1 to the fairgrounds. Or drive most of the way, find a parking spot at one of the lots near the Capitol or Southeast Polk Middle School, and follow the signs to one of the DART pick up locations. The air-conditioned bus takes you right to Gate 10, where it will pick you back up when you’ve had enough fun.
